WHAT TO EXPECT FROM 4KQ WITH 120K MI?

Hmm. Expect 150k to 180k with reasonable treatment. Replacement a veritable
_nightmare_ in labour charges - ten to twelve hours is about normal. Parts
cost is high, but not painful. Do the obvious things (crankshaft seal, slave
cylinder, thrust bearing) while you're down there.

Not a great deal. Do the water pump while you're in there.

Usual comments on used cars. Start from the position that someone is trying to
swindle you. If you believe that the guy you're dealing with is honest, don't
let it bother you. Just assume that the guy _he_ bought from ripped him off,
and he hasn't found out yet.
IMO - the best thing to do is get a professional inspection. Two or three
hours of a _seriously_ _good_ VAG-trained mechanic will cost a fraction of what
you're about to spend and may just save you a _fortune_.
