Re: L&L
In a message dated 97-01-14 11:21:11 EST, you write:
<< Two important reasons to compromise from my point of view - I don't want
to
add anything to the car that might call attention to it, either by the plods
or
those of a sticky-fingered persuasion, and I don't need the redundancy that
rally pilots get from six or eight lights. It doesn't matter to me that I
only
have two bulbs - if one goes out, I can stop and change it. A minor
consideration was not having to drill holes in the car, and also retaining
standard airflow into the bits that cool the engine - I do occasionally
cruise
at well over 100mph in Germany.
>>>> Rally pilots don't have redundant lights mr phil... Each light is
aimed for a specific light coverage, not for the event of one failure, that
is a misconception.... I assure you, they "stop and change" bulbs too, when
one goes out..... Proper lighting mounting does not affect your airflow,
think about the 450hp rallye cars, phil, I would think their concerns would
be a little higher.... Drilling holes in the bumper and hi profile looks are
both vanity issues, and no one has argued the "validity" of that
statement.... You already have holes in the bumper that you can use, another
discussion on mounting.... Doing it right takes homework, the euros are the
easy way..... Not to challenge the compromises you accept, they are yours,
science and engineering/technology of light design (including euros) might
just waver on the wattage compromises you are taking....
Homework assignment: Given phil's desires above, how does one get better
light given his statement.....
Scott returns:
Phil, on your specific car: swap the left side UK euro with a right side EC
euro, you have better beam pattern, per your own posts, you like that "side
view"... Or you can really go whacky and put the right side EC light on, and
give better front coverage with less lumens... Urq's accross the pond, yours
included, have a set of H3 driving/fogs, that are mediocre at best, and
aren't great at either function.... Hella has a small fog that will fit in
that opening, buy both the amber and the fog lense (same housing), now when
it's really thick you can take 4 screws out and put in the proper lense.....
Result:
Absolutely no change in the outward stealth (and I say that tongue in cheek
given this is an Urq) appearance of phil's ride, better light pattern
abounds, and only some minor bracketry behind the bumper to install the
hellas.... All better light running the STOCK wattage bulbs.... Sound good?
>>>>
Retaining the standard Euro glasses was thus a great benefit for me.
>>>>>
OK..... I have prolly repeated my posts one too many times here, understand
that I see the compromises you are accepting.... I can easily, and have only
taken, exception that euros are "best" or "superior".... That, frankly, just
isn't true...... And it takes little more time and homework, and less
dollars to get better light than the euros, all arguments to date have been
vanity ones, and with that I offer no rebuttal, argument or disagreement
