Headlight washers

Does anyone have words of wisdom for non-functioning headlight washers.
I hear the pump run, but nothing happens. I may have a problem with the
reservoir bottle (cracked?) or a broken fitting or something. When I add
more than a quart of cleaner, it dribbles on the ground. Of course, I
finally pop for the manual and Mr. Bentley is no help with this one. How
do I get access to this system. Do I have to remove the front, left
wheel and some plastic engine compartment covers? Any clues very much
appreciated.
