This is correct in theory, and in practise its fairly close, but in 
reality, tires of the same size from different manufacturers can vary in 
dimension quite a bit.   BFG Comp TA3 ZR tires, fro example, are rather 
narrower than their size name would suggest, whereas, Hoosier typically 
builds tires wider than their designations.   This is especially true of 
autocross tires.   In an application where the tire size may not fit in 
the car, you can bet that BFGs will have the best chance of fitting.  If 
I am fitting BFGs to a car, I'll go one size wider just to compensate, 
(unless I know its already too tight in there.)
