Pittsfield Winter Carnival Ice Trials

Here is the press release concerning the Pittsfield Winter Carnival Ice
Trials for Feb 1 and 2 1997 on Oneta Lake.

Automobiles will dot Onota Lake this Saturday February 1st and Sunday
February 2nd (weather permitting) as the Pittsfield Winter Sports
Committee, Inc. of the Pittsfield Department of Parks and Recreation
sponsor the 37th annual Ice Trials as part of Pittsfield's 52nd Annual
Winter Carnival.  The event is in cooperation with the Mohawk-Hudson
Region of the Sports Car Club of America.

The competition, open to all types of automobiles, starts Saturday and
Sunday mornings with registration at 9:00AM at the Controy Pavilion at
Burbank Park off Lakeway Drive from Pecks Road, Onota Lake.  Timed runs
will begin at 11:00 with drive-arounds for course familiarization at
10:00.  Each day is a completely separate event.

The event is a test of driving skills on ice, and since each car runs
separately, there is no danger of collision.  The winding course is
approximately 1 to 2 miles long.  

Trophies will be awarded for the top third of each class.  The classes
are as follows, with each class duplicated for studded tires:

Front Engine with Rear Wheel Drive             Front Engine with Front
Wheel Drive;
Rear Engine with Rear Wheel Drive              4 Wheel Drive;
other specialized vehicles.

Helmets (loaners are available) must be worn and seatbelts used.  
The entry fee is $15.  Clark Nicholls of Lee is the chairman.
