many problems

First things first...

I have an 86 5KS auto, no quattro, no turbo, no ABS, pdq, asap, fubarred, etc.

#1 The cruise control, which of a week ago was totally inoperable, that worked
briefly with a vacuum hose repacement (and t-connector), is now only somewhat
efficacious. It seems like the vacuum vents unnecessarily-- for no apparent
reason. The switch and vent valve (on the brake) test out fine. The vacuum
itself is strong, with repeated presses of the "SET" button, it really
accelerates nicely. then "forgets" to hold full pressure, and finally (30
seconds-2 minutes) the pressure is next to nothing, as the car slowly
decelerates. every tenth time it still works fine, though. aargh. This is
beginning to pi** me off. I am next going to short both brake vents and hope
the on-off switch doesnt malfunction. (by both vents i mean electrical and
mechanical brake vents). Any ideas? while I'm at it, the combo switch and
everything else are about 30 for 30 on test successes.

#2 I see occaisional driveshaft needs posted here. There is a place nearby that
sells TRW remanufactures for my car at about $80 with exchange. Email me for
your particular model and I will make a local call if you are in need.

#3 The engine knocks between 2600-2900 RPM. I assume maximum torque may be
around here. If you know a good engine person in southwest Ohio or North
central Ohio, please refer him to me or me to him, or just let me know who he
is.

#4 Two mechanics (both Audi owners) have told me that they use Dexron for their
Mineralhydraulic fluid. Consequently so did I. Any tips for flushing?

#5 I will be changing tranny fluid here. I see mentions of "redline" fluid.
where should I look for this? I will gladly take more opinions on its merits.

#6 I need sunroof assembly parts. Where is the cheapest source. Anyone done it
on a 5k with the Bentley? is it difficult?

#7 When did the 5K headlights go from double to single? Did the grille change
accordingly?

#8 If I remove the A/C programmer (and swallow my pride as I watch my dad
rebuild it), will I mess anything up by running the car or heater? I, also, get
only defrost.

#9 My parking brake light and battery light come on faintly sometimes. If I
apply the parking brake, the light comes on all of the way. Not really a
nuisance, just concerned about any problems that may occur?

#10 Anyone know where I can find discount mats? I want to give the retention
screws something to do?H.

#11 Anyone have links to many parts sources on their webpage?

#12 Odometer is broken. Should I look at repair, or just replace? As I imagine
VDO parts ain't too cheap. 

If I cannot fix some of these problems soon, I will fix them for good with a
claw hammer. 

I know this was a long message, but at least I'm not writing about Subaru,
profanity, lights, or the 1.8 turbo vs. the 2.8....
