'92 100S brakes
Anyone with a '92 or newer 100 (or A6 with V-6?) replaced their brakes? If
so, how much was it? Did you put OEM parts in? From the dealer? Or did you
put in some aftermarket parts, and if so, where from, and how much?
I've been relatively happy with the OEM stuff... I've driven them for at
least 51k miles (since I bought the car with 49k miles on it), and I don't
know when (if ever... hmmm, now is that possible... 100k miles from a set of
OEM pads and rotors?) they were changed before I owned the car. It was a
one-owner lease car.. so who knows. As well, in the 51k mile time-frame,
these brakes have seen one track event, just this past August, at LimeRock.
So overall, I think I'd like to get OEM, as opposed to some Raybestos
Pep-Boys specials. Any places with good deals on OEM stuff?
Basically, I need some thoughts on a brake job for my car. I just called a
(trustworthy) dealer, and they said it would cost roughly $680.00 for all
four wheels... rotors and pads all around. Here's how it "brakes" down (with
a 10% QCUSA parts discount):
(Per set, I assume..)
New front rotors: $119.00
New rear rotors: $ 67.00
New front pads: $111.00
New rear pads: $74.00
The rest is labor; he said roughly 4 hours or so. This seems long to me...
an hour for each wheel? Come on... is this rocket science, or what? I don't
think this guy really knew what he was talking about...
I usually trust this dealership (AutoHaus in Harrisburg PA). I didn't speak
to the mechanic (Wes) , who seems like a nice guy who knows his "stuff", and
who actually steered me away from spending $400 on O2 sensors when I didn't
need them (i.e. it was the plug wires causing my part-throttle
hesitation!!). I had talked to the service "advisor" who answered the phone.
I think that I'll try calling the mechanic back to get the "straight scoop".
In the meantime, anyone have any recommendations?
