Re: 210's vs Hoka NRW's

"Absolutely hates them" would be too strong.

My feedback to the group was after just having been
beaten by a BMW 540i on East Mercer Way. [Very twisty for
you non-Northwesterners] Yes, I think they were a poor choice
for me. I think they are great in the snow, but give too much
away in the dry and the rain. Now partly my comparison is
unfair since the only other tires I've had on the car are a set
of +0 Dunlop D40M2s. However, contrasting these with the
snow tires on my other car ('90 626) I would say they are a
little better in the snow, but aren't nearly as good in the dry
or rain. The other tires are Semperit Top-Grips that I have
had for about 7 years and are studless. Unfortunately you
can't get the Semperits anymore or it would have been an
easy choice.
[For those in the Northwest list:
As an example I was driving south on 405 tonight around
7:00 in an incredible downpour. I was heading up the hill
from the 522 Interchange towards the 160th exit. I was doing
just under 70 in the left lane and it starting hydroplaning a bit.
That's something that the wider D40M2s wouldn't have done.
-end Northwest content]
I use the method of having two sets of rims and tires. I
switch over just twice a year, November and March. For me
I think a true snow tire is a necessity since both cars are only
front wheel drive and I do a bit of skiing. I think, though, that
with the amount of driving I do in the dry and in the rain, rain,
rain I needed a true snow tire that is more performance oriented,
perhaps the Pirelli 210 or an equivalent. At least until I buy
a Subaru. Naah, I'll still use two sets of rims.
