Fuel pump for '87 5KCSTQ

     Everyday my Audi seems to have a new problem.  Yesterday it broke 
     down while my wife was driving our son to the doctors office. Can 
     you say very pissed off wife with thoughts of buying a new car.  
     I can!  Anyway, I believe the fuel pump is sos.  This car only 
     has one fuel pump (not two) and its in the gas tank.  Can the 
     fuel pump be replaced from the trunk or do I have to drop the gas 
     tank?  Any and all help will be appreciated.
