The Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon in a *FAST* wagon.  My parents bought one in 
September and I drive it whenever I'm home.  I would say (just opinion 
here) that because of the autobox in the Volvo that you had no chance at 
keeping pace with him if you stayed in 5th gear.  He's in 3rd and you are 
in 5th, opps...  
	Now ask the Volvo driver to take a few tight corners in 
an attempt to keep up with you and you'll be a few miles ahead before he/she 
realizes what happened.  (That's the voice of experience talking 
there...)  My parents 86 740 non turbo wagon handled better (at the limit) 
than their 96 850 turbo wagon.  Go figure!
