... you may want to look into the CA requirements Karl ... if you purchased
the car within 90 days of moving to CA you may be required to pay the sales
tax in any case. You may also have to deal with importing a car with less
than 7500 miles that is not equipped to meet CA emissions standards ... even
if you can you would need to pay the CA $300 smog impact TAX^H^H^Hfee.
Make sure you know all the details! My brother bought a new car in MN and
drove it to CA. He had heard from someone at the DMV that this was OK, but
he didn't have it in writing. He then went to the DMV to get it registered
but the car had less than 7500 miles, and the DMV said no way. He ended up
having to drive the car back to MN to sell it ... and if anyone else tried
to drive the car to CA in the future they'd find that the car can NEVER be
registered in CA!
If you'd like I might be able to help you get info about what you'll need
to do ... just let me know ...
HTH!
