I also need to remove the steering wheel on my '86 Coupe GT so
could use similar info, or quite possibly completely different info! The
socket size is important since I don't have access to a Bentley(or
unlimited funds for multiple king size sockets). A complete procedure to
get to my ignition switch module is what I am in search of, if anyone
could help . . . please help . . . .thank you . .

My trip computer on my digital dash (in my previously mentioned '86
Coupe GT) is on the fritz. I had thought it may be attributed to what I
thought was a fuel problem, but the above mentioned ignition switch
module turned out to be the culprit. So, I now need to figure out why:
a) it is registering only a 15.6 MPG Ave.(seems to stick there but
occasionally jumps around, sometimes up to 54, 76, and beyond) no matter
how the throttle and gears are used, and b) it miscalculates the
"Mileage Remaining." I once heard a "plastic *snap*" come from behind
the cluster while I was pulling the defrost switch and its attached
wires out from the right hand side of the cluster. I was wondering at
the time if I broke anything of importance inside but forgot to take
note of anything, and now I don't know if the trip computer failed from
then on or not. It occasionally works perfectly but not for long at all
. . . . .SSOOooooo . . . . I am wondering if a sending unit at say the
gearbox, like P.O. Selander wrote about, could be the cause.
