Distributor Trick on Audi 200
I'm glad to report that my 1990 200 is running dandy. Scott (QSHIP)
gave me precisely the right information to get it going after the
timing belt change.
The problem was that I had no spark from the distributor when I
tried to start it. Scott cloued me in that changing the timing belt
could change the relationship between distributor and crankshaft
timing a few degrees...and that all I had to do was loosen the dist.
hold-down bolt and move it a few degrees one way or the other.
The ignition system looks for the distributor and crank sensors to
agree within a narrow windoe of +/- 2 degrees - and changing the belt
can move thart relationship outside this window. If it's outside, no
spark goes to the distributor.
So I moved the distributor a couple of degrees - and BINGO. Fired up
and ran at once! I set it at about 3 degrees of advance compared to its
previous position, as it ran better that way than moving it the same
amount in the other direction.
THANK YOU, Mr. Scott!
