As long as it covers the bands and has appropriate resolution, a scanner can be
used to receive CB broadcasts. I have an AR1500 1000-channel scanner that I
sometime use for this.
Take note of the SWR subthread, though. An aerial must be tuned for optimum
performance and the stubby whip supplied with most scanners is at best a
compromise. I'm thinking along the lines of a stealth CB installation.
Anyone in the UK got similar experience? I've heard that the truckers pass
traffic information backwards on the M1 southbound, at least. What
channel/frequency/modulation is used in the UK? I know John Coughtrie always
has one in each of his cars - he left the mounting in the car he sold me.
