2 Qu's(Fuel inj & Exhaust)
Since its spring, warmer temp's means more time to work on my car. And
I'm always thinking of new thing to make/fix. So I came up with a couple
of questions:
I dont know all the technial terms, so bear with me.
1) Working with the fuel injection sys., how is the mass air flow sensor
plate supposed to be adjusted? According to my manual, it should be
flush with the bottom of the cone, but the cone isn't a perfect cone.
Where the MAF plate sits, the edges of the cone do not converge, but are
vertical for about 2-3mm. I was wondering if I am supposed to set the
plate at the top if this 3mm or the bottom of the 3mm.
Originally it was in the middle. Car had reasonable power, got approx
330 km on 60L tank (~5.5 km/L = ~ 16 mpg) in city.
At the top of the 3mm. Car has less power, still getting around
15mpg.
(This is the main reason I am screwing around with this! The CO is
adjust lean, vac guage reads 16 inhg. Rest of car checks out)
2) I am thinking of putting in dual exhaust , I was wondering where to
split the pipes up. Right now I was thinking right after the rear wheel.
Is this a good place?
I was also unsure about back pressure. My car is non turbo 4000s 5cyl.
Last spring I cut off the pipe, evverything incl. the cat. So right now
it is running a straight pipe (2.5") with a free flow exhaust(Cherry
bomb), there is so much air being pumped out with out the cat installed.
If I went with dual exhaust, there would be even less pressure. Is this
ok for the car, or is back pressure essential.
Also, I have done a few things with the intake, ie. K&N filter and I
reducted the intake hose (from bottom of airbox) to the front grille
with an 8" vent. (lots of air flow)
If anyone has done this, please let me know. Thanks again.
