RE: Starting blues...

Well, heres my 2 cents on this. My 84 4000s never gave me trouble
starting until last winter, all of a sudden, on a cold start it would
take 6 or 7 tries and a lot of cranking. I took it to a shop, and they
went through the basics (ie. new spark plugs and stuff) No difference.
Then I took it to my mechanic here in winnipeg (german car specialists),
They did the same basics( again new spark plugs, check timing and
stuff). And again no difference. Then they changed all 5
injectors($$$$). Still no difference. Now we were getting frustrated. He
said it is common for audis to do this. I dont think so, we sat down and
looked at everything, only thing we hadnt checked yet was the
distributor. Next day found the distributor was shorted. Picked one up
from a used parts yard, starts fine now. I guess dont overlook the
obvious. All the work I got done ran about 6-700 bucks, whereas the
distributor was only like 40. Could've save a whole lotta trouble. Hope
it helps.
