Re: ATF in Oil -Reply



The Rover 3500, '80-82, V8, 5spd, came with engine oil in the transmissions. 
But a subsequent service bulletin recommended they be converted to ATF. 
Apparently with ATF they shifted better, had no bearing trouble, and didn't
leak.  (My Rover 2000TCs use engine oil in their 4spd)

BTW, I don't recall which, but some transmissions which when run with synthetic
oils do not shift as well because the decrease in friction does not aid the
synchros and results in a slightly slower and 'notchier' gearbox.
