I cked the 1990&91 Audi coupe quattro fiches for you.  AUDI lists L is the
designation for 1990 model year, and has production runs from 5-01-89 thru
7-31-90.  The M designation is the 1991 model and has production runs from
8-1-90 thru 1-31-91.  Sounds like you are looking at a real early 1990 model.
 If you want to e-mail me the total VIN, I can pinpoint the date.  Press car
maybe?  Does it have an airbag?
