Congratulations, you have been a victim of a blundering incompetent
Parts Counterperson ( I hope it wasn't me or any of my people ).
I suspect that your 5 cyl engine is being fed by a 4 cylinder fuel pump
relay. ( the rev limiter is built into the fuel pump relay ). Ever have a
tech or parts guy tell you "...ah, they're all the same..." guess what, they
are not.
Read the part number off the side of the fuel pump relay and post it here
or call me after 09:00 EST when I'm at work and I'll look up the
part number for you and verify if it's correct ( 610-279-4100 ).
It should go to the "red stuff & beyond" ( at least once ) depending on he
cam
belt.
