RE: Gearbox problems on a 1988 90 Q

Thanks for replying to this everyone, I took it to a Volkswagen/Audi
specialist over the weekend and he fiddled with the gearchange a bit and
reckoned that it was the clutch not disengaging properly, which would
make sense, although so do all the (different!) replies I've received.

If the engine is not running, if I press the clutch, I can change gear
without the slightest problem at all, no matter what the gearchange has
been like on the previous trip. It's also variable, some days better
than most. Does this narrow it down at all?

Thanks for your help so far everyone, given the cost of fixing these
things, I want to be as certain as possible, so you're all very much
appreciated!
