I've been dreaming of building a sleeper quattro for a long time. My
first idea was to get a 4kq and swap in a 2.0 VW four banger with a
stage II turbo package. The tranny mounts are all the same, just a
support braket is needed for the engine. And that engine with the
intercooled turbo puts out some serious ponies. Now that I actually have
a quattro (in sheeps clothing) I find that the P-car is demanding the
engine money first. That's o.k. I bought the syncro to get me around in
the snow and mud, the 914 is now a weekend/summer/autocross/time-trial
car. But OH! The canyons here in Boulder are gonna be a blast when the
roads clear up (it's currently blizzard conditions outside). The syncro
is a great car, but it weighs twice what the porsche weighs, and doesn't
handle anywhere close to the 914. Porsche, accept no substitute.

Yoiks!!! Is gonna even fit? I guess that goes by the addage "there's no
replacement for displacement.". Have you seen the Monster Miata? They
shoehorned a F*rd 5.0 V8 in a miata with an RX7 rear end and 8" wheels
with big fat meaty tires. And the didn't have to cut any sheet metal.
That would be an amusing sight, a little miata sputtering and rumbling
at a stoplight. As much as I turlly love my german cars and the handling
they provide, there trully is something awesome about big block Detroit
iron.

By the way, it's nice to hear form you. :) How's the P-car?
