Re: Oxy Sensor Question

Wow, I actually am answering a question from Mike Tipton... There's a switch
!
Mike, I assume that 3 wire OXS is quite a ways downwind of the manifold,
unlike say the stock 82 coupe where it is mounted directly in the manifold.
The OXS needs to be at about 600 deg F to function properly - the heater
accomplishes this. I ran the OXS on my coupe after the engine replacement,
with the 85 4kq manifold/downpipe without the heater attached for a few
weeks. It was mounted just ahead of the cat in a welded in fitting. The
car ran much smoother and idled higher after I finally hooked up the heater.
I think it was getting warm enough but was getting there much slower than
if it were in the manifold or heated electrically.
I suggest you stay with the heated unit. Someone on this list had a source
for them under $100, darned if I can remember who...? Somehow my neighbor
managed to sell me one for about $75.00.
