Re: quick turbo question (fwd) -Reply
Think I posted this a couple of years ago. Many of you will remember the
series EC / VW & Porsche did on the Calloway turbo for the Coupe GT. (
Circa 1987) This install was originally designed for the 4KQ and included
a new custom exhaust manifold AC compressor etc. I called Calloway about
this in 1988 since I had my brand new 87 4kcsq and like Steve I wanted
more. At that time I was told these were out of production but with a
sizable down payment they would have the exhaust manifold cast and get me
the kit eventually. Think they were talking 4-6 months. All for only $6000
1988 dollars -Uninstalled.
Side note on the above. The article said the quattro installation was
faster, only reason they could figure, since the quattro weighs more, was
its lower gearing. For all the detail in the article they never mentioned
changing exhaust and *we* know the quattro's exhaust is much more free
flowing than the coup's. Also mentioned was the fact the turbo didn't
really "come on" until late in second gear. For the money and technology,
I'd go with an MC or MB depending on pocketbook.
