Subject: 1990 CQ -Window Reg. fixed !- but needs strut
brngs,a/c,prsr.accmlatr work....

Hi everyone out there.
FIRST- Well I've just completed the daunting task of replacing my RT FRT
WINDOW REGULATOR purchased from Carlsen Audi for $263 (best price found in US
- Quattro List discount added). Brand spanking new part frome BROSE same
manufacturer as the original. My original was made in 4/89 - my replacement
made in 12/94- all new cable assembly, frame, and white plastic base window
carriers. It was not an easy job at all . Taking off the door was a PITA and
even more so at re-installation. Adjusting the regulator to give correct
pressure on the door frame took an hour of trying this and trying that - all
by myself. If I had taken the car to my mechanic he would have charged me $350
for the part and at least $100 for labor, so a little blood, sweat and tears
and hours were better spent.

NEXT- My car starts, idles very well, does not stall, but when accelerating
has slight surging or hesitation in mid range, it also makes like a sporadic
clickity clickity sound when accelerating hard mostly, almost like a diesel
engine would. I think it may be the lifters, or the valves themselves. BTW,
just changed the oil again with MOBIL1(of course) and it still is a little
clickity when accelerating hard. Less noisy but still bothering me. The car
has 99,800 miles and is still very capable. I have yet to change my OXY sensor
because it looks like a PITA to extract and install-ANY ADVICE? HAS ANYONE
CHANGED THEIR LIFTERS or VALVES. BTW I do not have any blue smoke emminating
from my rear-at least not my car's.

THIRD- I have been advised by my mechanic and my sense of direction that the
upper strut bearings are no longer in this world -(shot)- and causing poor car
tracking or steering when driving on the hwy and a curve comes the car will
begin to steer before I can - it makes you feel that its very loose down there
in suspensionville there is considerable noisy movement over the slightest
bump as well. When the FRT wheels are off the ground and I pull or push on the
side of the tire there is definate movement and noise from the top of the
strut area at least 1/8-1/4" movement. BUT if I change the STRUT BEARINGS, I
will want to change the STRUTS, SHOCKS, SPRINGS, and maybe every last BUSHING
in the front end and rear end as well. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS BEFORE?? My
mechanic reccommends H&R SPRINGS and KONI STRUTS/SHOCKS. If I replace all of
this , should I also replace the frt wheel bearings for good measure???? I
have not had an alignment done because I know they would reccommend everything
above . Figure at least $250 for springs, $400 for shocks, $150 for bearings,
$100 for all bushings and a lot of labor, est$1000?? And of course 17 x 8" TSW
Hockenheim R's with 215/45 x 17 Z for $2000.

FOURTH- I also have a PRESSURE ACCUMULATOR that thinks its in a humming band.
It first makes a HMMMMMMMMMMM when you start the car, then after you brake it
goes HMMMMMMMMM and when it does this the tach goes down slightly. The brake
light comes on only if you slammm on the brakes or when you give it the 10
step test. I have priced the part at under $200 and it looks marginally
difficult to remove and replace, but I'll probably have my mechanic do it
because it has liquid and lots o pressure. HAS ANYONE REPLACED THEIRS
YET??????

LAST- On top of all that I've been pretty happy with the car - my stock radio
has a little bit of static when you first turn it on . My a/c is cold through
the middle outlets only- IS THIS HOW IT WORKS? And my steering wheel is always
a little right of center - PARTS + ALIGNMENT NEEDED?? Tell me what does
everyone suggest I do ??????????????????????

THANKYOU IN ADVANCE- btw if you would rather take this gem off my hands I will
consider all bids over $7000 ( pretty fair price I believe ).
