I have a different car ('86 5K CSTQ) but more than likely the sensor
"logic" is the same as on yours and like mine your digital icon probably
serves a dual purpose.

     1)  High Water Temp
     2)  Low coolant level

Mine flashes periodically.  First time it happened I freaked.  Water
temp per guage however was and is O.K.  Each time I top off the expansion
tank and I'm good for another three months.  One day I'll get off my
butt and replace the leaky multi-sender.
