Gov't & safety

The highway safety something something has just released its latest
recommendation in what to look for in new cars for people who's in the
market for one. Thus, I quote, "In the light of the increasing sales in
light trucks, one thing consumers should not overlook is the weight of the
car. Simply, heavier car is safer than lighter cars... [snip] For
safety-minded consumers, we recommend cars that at least weigh in at
3000lbs."

?

Does this mean the Detroit Big Three is really desperate for sales?
