Steve:

Check vaccuum lines in engine compartement in the vecinity of the
actuator rod that connect throttle mechanism to transmission, I suspect
something is rubbing against the rod. Check lubricatuion of arm outside
the trasmissions housing ( controlled by the shift lever cable) also
hardening of the cable sheathing.
