Air Bag deactivation
Most of the dealers won't help with airbag info due to fear of
liability.
What I do know is that the "energy reserve" isn't supposed to last more
than 10 minutes after disconnection of battery. The proceedure on
working is to disconnect power and wait a while (how long would you wait
before approaching that misfired fireworks?).
If you disconnect only one air bag, the open connector will cause the
air bag warning light to stay on. The diagnostics must see the "squib"
resistance to confirm an operational air bag. Does anyone know what
resistance this requires (use of the wrong methods to test resistance
could result in detonation)?
It looks like simple removal of the airbag fuse and religious use of
seat belts will resolve this whole issue.
