Re: Buy Turbo or install one?

Believe it or not there are some of us who live in dry climates who buy Audi
quattros because they handle GREAT! Not to revive the old threads of FWD vs.
AWD, or would I buy an Audi if it weren't a q. For a performance (street) car
I place more importance on handling than straight line speed and never would
have considored a non-q Audi when I bought my first one. *I* am convinced
that a quattro is much more fun and rewarding, not to meantion safer, to
drive aggressivly on the street than most rwd cars and certainly all fwd
cars. If I wanted only to go fast in a straight line, a 5kt (non-q) would not
be considored as an option-no matter how much I may love Audi's. In fact for
that purpose good ol' muricun iron does it best-but not elegantly to be sure.
A good compramise would be a tuned 944t-blindingly fast and great
handling...but not awd, and not a 5 passenger 4 door car. Bottom line, as a 6
time Audi owner (3 4kq's) I would not give up a 4kq for any non-q Audi I have
ever driven (within reason...an A8non-q? of course-lets be real though.) They
handle great and put a smile on my face that well. I live in the area Tony
(the poster who posed the question) does and 5kt's are a dime a dozen around
here...yes, the 5spd version is super rare and a nice car, but I wouldn't
give up a quattro (any quattro) for it. I don't ski, and it doesn't rain that
much around here. Every time I fling that nice light tossable little 4kq
around I smile and think...damm this is a nice car. Having owned more than 30
various cars and trucks over the past 20 some years (including 3 P-cars and
lotsa wmb's), the 4kq is my sentimental favorite-though far from the fastest
in a straight line. Then again my all-time favorite was the '87 5ktqwagon and
I will be getting another big tq someday. Just my long winded opinion and
more than .02 worth.
