Mentioned on the off-chance that the option was overlooked, my
4KSQ's leaky radiator was successfully welded several years back, and
it's still holding tight today.  The old time radiator shop where I took it
commented that the absence of plastic parts made the repair possible. 
They were impressed by its construction (way to go Audi!).  Of course,
a Syncro radiator may contain the dreaded plastic, and/or the leak may
be inoperable.  But it's worth checking out.
