Well, first, find a river. Next, drive along it. That's where the scenery is
in the midwest (for the most part) IMHO. Example: The Great River Road, which
follows the Mighty Mississippi from Minnesota to Louisiana (?). I have driven
this from Minnesota to Missouri, and in the fall offers spectacular foliage
views. Sometimes curvy, usually with a grand veiw of the huge river basin,
especially in northern Iowa around the Effigy Mounds and Yellow River Forest
areas. Interesting old river towns along the route, also. A good weekend
vacation.
