20V A/C PERFORMANCE

I havve seen a lot of mail about people asking if their A/C systems are
working
OK. For the heck of it, I ran the following test yesterday:

Ambient temps: 85 Deg F, about 50% rel. humid., bright sunny in Pittsburgh,
late afternoon. Car parked in sun for approx. 30
minutes
                         beforehand.
Settings: System in "AUTO", temp setting = 75 Deg F. Windows
closed,
had sunroof open in "tilt" mode for approx. 5
minutes to purge
                         hot air.

Results: After approx. 15 minutes, system seemed to stabilize
(fan
cut back to approx LO or next speed above) with
center duct
air temp approx. 36 Deg F. Initially, I got
impression system
went to full-bore cooling (max. fan speed and
recirc. door
opened to admit just internal air), then backed
down. This was
with car moving above approx. 20 MPH in clear
traffic; at lights,
discharge temp climed toward approx. mid-40's.

Hope this helps. Car is a '90 Coupe Quattro with 119,000 miles; has been
recharged twice, outside temp sensor replaced once, connector to condenser
fan replaced, otherwise HVAC hasn't been touched.
