I agree with that assessment for most dealers in large markets. Now it
gets interesting in small markets, where there is no choice of
inventory.
The dealer I purchased my '97 A6QW in Winston Salem, NC (we are not
Audi country here) was willing to sell his only 1.8T to me for $656
over invoice @ $25,930. Which is a good deal. It was an
auto/quattro/comfort pkg/green mica/cloth. Although I feel he may
have given me that price since I am local and a repeat customer.
Unfortunately, it didn't have what I wanted and was still a $439 lease
payment, so I went with a shorter and cheaper lease on a lesser car,
the Jetta Trek. But the 1.8T sat on his lot for three months with no
takers.
They ended up sending it to a midwest dealer, along with an equally
slow moving A6QW wagon in some trade. Now, he has one lonely Audi, a
loaded '98 2.8q, which won't last 30 days. Ah, the marketplace rules
again!
