Oil drain plug

Something I learned it my Mercedes days that I haven't seen mentioned in
this thread is the importance of changing the copper washer every time
you change oil. Not for sealing but because, at least for the Mercedes,
after the copper washer was crushed it would seize the plug and make it
very hard to remove. Many an oil drain plug was smoothed to the point
of impossible removal from a combination of wrong wrench and old gasket,
not on my car but others I've seen. Each time the washer is reused the
worse the seizing becomes. All of the German filters I bought for the
Benz had a steel and a copper washer packed with it. I've been using US
made filters on my Audis and don't get the washers with them, sure wish
they did as the Germans.

BTW: I much prefer my Audi over the Mercedes my wife had up until two
years ago. Her Benz was replaced by a Ford Powerstroke Diesel pickup
that we share, a good exchange IMHO.
