Re: Audi-Chev conversion
Sorry for the delayed response... my mailserver has been down which has
required me to (wince) resort to AOL. Please re: to elmool@tiac.net

Actually, the Haltec comes ready to install for about 1800, including pre
assembled wiring etc. The only thing you have to worry about is mounting the
sensors, which can be taken care of during the engine rebuild...

Maybe so, but replacement of that exhaust system, especially considering it
is a dual exhaust, would _not_ yield 50 Hp, and I won't believe it unless I
see dyno figures. I can't even fathom how that exhaust can restrict 50 Hp...

Where are you whipping this figures out from?!?
Porting and polishing, yielding 50-100 Hp!?!? Geez! Yer starting to sound
like TAP... "cams here, port and polish there, throw in an exhaust and you're
up to 250 hp from 164 in your 20V NA"!!! What a load of bull!
Just going into a NorthStar, or with any head of which they have no
experience, w/ a dremel tool and filing away will most likely do NOTHING and
maybe even _reduce_ flow efficiency! Remember, GM has spent millions
engineering this motor, and there is no "untapped power", (especially
50-100hp!) that a dremel tool is going to realese

Alright Graydon, I seriously think you have lost it ;*) To utilize a truly
over-utilized phrase: "what are you smoking?!" Pardon me for my LOL, but you
cannot, with a straight face, expect to get 100 to 150 Hp from a set of cams!
There is absolutely _no way_ for a set of cams to yield that much power...
Don't take this the wrong way, but I am just sitting here shaking my head at
these convoluted claims... With the exhaust from Borla, a port and polish to
the heads, (has anybody EVER ported and polished a set of NorthStar heads?)
and 4 New cams, (Customs, which will run REAL big money, that will be
completely unproven and will have to be very "wild" and kill all driveablity
in order to yield anysort of discernable power increase {ya think that was a
run-on sentance??}), you will be lucky to get 40 hp.
I would really like to know why you think you can double the power of the
factory motor just by throwing in a couple of cams and an exhaust and porting
and polishing the heads. Yes there were certain compromises taken, for
driveability, quietness, etc, but I will tell you now, for sure, that there
most definitely are NOT 300 horses about ready to run free...
The only possible way you will see big gains in power is by way of a serious
fogger setup, and then you will only get a max of 150-200hp...
Hey, maybe it's me, but does anyone else find a 600 HP NorthStar, built for
the stree, by way of three relatively simple mods, a completely preposterous
claim?
Nomex on, still shaking my head...
