<Audi> Installing STEADIRIC suspension
So I'm finally going to install the STEADIRIC suspension kit on my 200tqw,
and am looking for some BTDT's.
Replacing the rear springs/shocks looks like it could be done by just about
anyone...no questions there!
Now about the front (and I've looked at various comments in the archives
already). I'm following the procedure in Bentley on 40.11, and am looking
for anyone to answer my questions or give shortcuts, etc. (Bentley
directions are in "quotes").
1. "Remove axle/bolt washer". Can you re-use that bolt? Bentley
contradicts itself.
2. "Raise vehicle; remove wheel bolts and wheel". Got it.
3. "Remove stabilizer bar clamps on both sides". Is that bushing a wear
item that should be replaced now?
4. "Remove caliper mounting bolts; remove caliper and tie up w/wire; remove
brake disc". OK.
5. "Remove ball joint bolt". Re-usable? Also, I can't find a torque spec.
6. "Use length of pipe approx 5ft long & press down on stabilizer bar to
separate joint". Now this is *hokey*. Will a good ol'murrican ball joint
separator work? Or a pickle fork? Is this ball joint a good thing to
replace?
7. "Press out tie rod end". Yeah, OK, I think.
8. "Remove spring strut cover; remove nuts while holding suspension strut
from below; remove suspension strut assembly". Sounds easy enough.
Any other parts I should just plan on replacing on a car w/120,000 miles?
Strut bearings? Other suspension pieces? I know one of my boots over the
strut is slit and needs replacing. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks!......SLM
