RE: My '92 Quattro is a piece of #$$%^#@!!
Steve Spurlock said incredulously:

No, actually, but there are exceptions..read on....

Good day to buy lottery tickets...you're lucky!
Join the club....only my 1990 MANUAL transmission retails at $6969..and IF
you can find a rebuilt one: $4985......mine failed and is currently
in the hands of a guy that "may" be able to fix it. I wound up buying a
used one from ****** for $1375.
I was also told...."no user serviceable parts inside." As much as I hate
to say it, Audi's parts pricing structure is out of control and this may
very well be my last Audi. I don't mind spending money, but I sure hate to
waste it. Here are some regular retail cost examples:
Outside Mirror: $82 P/S Pump: $825 Brake Rotor (one): $132
A/C Condenser: $725 Oil Plug:$11
Crankcase Vent Hose: $90+ Spark Plug Wires: $300+....... Muffler: $625
Muffler Bearing w/ aux. Fetzer Valve: $4100
I haven't paid these prices, but it's getting really old trying to track
down a "deal." It makes me feel like a cheapskate sometimes when all I'm
trying to do is save my wallet from early vacuum failure.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to speak to some Audi Germany and AoA people at
Road America next week....I'll be moderately interested to see what they
have to say about un-serviceable parts and the like. I had my heart set on
a Quattro Wagon next...but now I'm not so sure.
You know, there's a guy in Maine that's converting Volvos over to Ford 5.0
litres for $6000.....I may give him a call....you think I'm kidding don't
you? Hey, Paul Newman's got a couple, why not Paul Royal when the parts
are 1/3 the price and probably a lot more fun to break.
Currently really un-****ing-satisfied,
Paul Royal (still checking the archives)
