Heater core replacement

My Bentley is very sketchy at best when it come to a procedure for
replacing heater core and my Haynes seems to only talk about non air
conditioned and make it look easy.  This is my first attempt at this.  Do I
need to unhook some vacuum lines and cables under the dash first?  My local
rad shop says the 86 5000t (Canadian model) has a unique heater core
different than other years according to his book.  Of course it is more
expensive. Is the cheaper version adaptable to my car?
