Thanks for the actual info Bruce!  Let me add from my actual experience on 
my '83 QTC (early '83 vintage) that unless the rubber portion of the car-
rier is thrashed it is easily possible to extract the bearing from the 
carrier and take it to a local bearing house to procure a replacement 
based on the part number (6006RSR sticks out in my mind).  Cost back when
was in the $10-20 range.  On my car the bearing pressed out of the rubber 
housing, after sliding off the front section of the prop shaft.
