Jeez, finally an '89 100Q with (at least a few) more miles than mine.

This is not right. My light always goes out within a few seconds.
30-40 seconds is way too long. Sounds likely to be the bomb. Before
you drop $$$, have you checked the pentosin and brake pluid levels?
