Responses have ranged from stock to practical to ridiculous to sublime. 
For now, I have chosen the proper rubber band solution as I seek a new
module.

So far, a new unit at $119 seems pretty good.  Boneyards up here in
flyoverland, MN have quoted from $75-$100, so why dick around?

Unless...

Anyone got one cheaper?  I've got about a dozen Merkurs so my car repair
budget is stretched thin!

Elsewise, thanks for the great response.  As a first-time Audi owner,
but having  still got the '72 bug I earned my driver license in, I
consider my foray into German Fords, Carpri, Fiesta, XR4ti and Scorp as
a forgivable offense.  Ich komme zuruek nach Hause!
