Ouch!
I used to know a guy who worked for insurance companies writing up the
claims and inspecting the damage. He told me about a case where a car
was damaged by hitting a deer. There on the bumper of the car was a
pair of those "deer whistle's". I live in a high deer population area
also and I decided not to spring for the "whistle's" after hearing
about their effectiveness in that case. 
I know this isn't really what you wanted to hear, but that's what
happened in one case.
