Deer whistles do work to a degree. Not failsafe, but worth the $10 or
so. If you aren't sure about the brand, get two sets. Deer use 3 senses
to detect danger:sight, smell and sound. They confirm one sense with at
least another. Since they aren't likely to smell you at speed, this
leaves sight and sound. They see you, but often too late. The whistles
get them to look sooner and once they do look, this is the confirmation
to get going, hopefully.
