I think that you are correct, however, the Franco gear advances the cam 
(and therefore the distributor) 7 deg at idle/startup, which I think is 
outside the window of acceptability for a startup.

Well, I don't know this for sure, but I would guess at least a 10% 
improvement in low end and high end with roughly the same mid-range.   It 
broadens the usable torque band.
