On my old '86 4000csq, it was the metal stiffener withing the trim that
caused it to lift off the car.  The metal band rusted and expanded, warping
the trim.  Look at the center of the trim for a distorted line running
horizontally the length of the trim piece.

Tried to glue it down; worked for a while, until it got caught when opening
the door (and my passenger forced open the door, ruining the piece).

I ended up replacing it.
