     Thanks, I've had another reply saying what I observe is normal. I'll 
     try the Econ setting tonight. Unfortunately the owners manual I 
     ordered is stuck in the middle of the Canadian postal strike, it 
     wouldn't surprise me if I never receive it.... Pity really because the 
     whole climate controller is a bit of a mystery to me. Call me old 
     fashioned but I much prefer the older rotary knobs and pull levers, 
     you can adjust the temperature and direction without taking your eyes 
     off the road.

I believe any mode that runs the AC compressor will turn the fan on 
and raise the idle speed.  What about the 'Econ' setting?
