Looked and looked, but nothing plugged into the down pipe after the
turbo. I assume we're looking at the point right after the point
where the corrugated downpipe from the wastegate meets the other pipe
coming from the turbo. Will see tomorrow if there is anything plugged
in along the exhaust lines when I take the car in for a CV service.

Beats me. There is no cat on this thing. Only 2 silencer boxes.

Ok, sorry, my mistake. It definitely is a mechanical K-Jetronic, but
with electronic ignition. I know the KE-Jetronic came in the later
Audi cars when they also reshaped the intake manifold (which actually
looks better than the one in the older models :)). That was a
almost EFI system and was on the NA motors. Those never came out as
turbo as far as I can tell. That was just before the shape changed
to the A6.

Yup. I understand completely now. A while back I pulled the carpeting
of the passenger side to see what ECU I was running. It is definitely
the MAC-13 Hitachi unit.

Green plug? If it is a green plug, then the one I'm looking at is
on the front side of my fuel distributor. Buzzes like mad, actually
had me scared when I first popped the hood on this thing having
never seen them.
Thanks for the help. So this is what it's looking like right now:
MAC-13 ECU
Cannot see lambda sensor
No cat
K-Jetronic with electronic ignition
So if the lambda was pulled off this thing I should be able to confirm
it with an error code from the ECU which I can setup by putting a fuse
into the plug on top of the fuel pump relay.
If there is no lambda attached to the ECU then can it automatically
compensate for a missing sensor or did it need to be reprogrammed
to take it into account? I assume it would normally compensate without
adverse affects for the case where a lambda sensor might go faulty
on a "normal" 200T system. Am I right in thinking this way? If I am
then VW/Audi SA knew this and it would be okay for them to simply
have pulled it off.
