My owner's manual (ur-quattro, TORSEN) says that the prop shaft must be removed 
before the vehicle is towed with the fronts unable to rotate.
 
Both the AA and RAC have standing instructions to flat-bed _ALL_ 4WD and AWD 
vehicles.
