Part number for 1989/1990 brake bromb on RHD 200...
Hi!
The bomb thing again. Got the following part number from the agents
Lindsay-Saker for VW/Audi in South Africa:
443-614-111 price is US$451.84
Called the local VW/Agents (ie. factory service centre) and got
the following number:
443-612-062A price is US$452.05
Ask my friendly VW/Audi mechanic to find a proper part, he sent me to
an importer. Spoke to the guy and he has been doing this stuff since
1956. Started quoting the number for the part, but he couldn't find
443-612-062A on his list. Told him to look up 443-614-111 and that
turned out to be the ABS unit and not the accumulator.
I need to replace this thing soon or someone will get killed one of
these mornings with the braking in my car, it is getting weaker and
weaker.
The importer told me that I'd probably need a 444 part number for
the right-hand drive vehicles. A fellow q-lister tells me the
part can be had from the US for about $280 which makes me happy. The
only thing is, and the importer warned me about it, I have to make
sure of the damn part number! VW/Audi SA are hopeless!
Will the accumulator on a LHD (443) fit a RHD (444) car? As far as I
understand it is independent of positioning.
Also, the idea was to crawl under the car and pull the part number off
the part. Now I learn that that is not a good idea at all as the number
is the casting number and can be different from the part number. Huh?
Now what? I will also be cancelling my warranty policy as the max they
will pay out for any brake system fault is US$155, and that includes
all taxes. And I still have to pay the US$20 a month for the next
2 years.
So, I need to nail this part down to a complete proper number for
import purposes. Robert Myers, a fellow q-lister, is willing to give
me tremendous help in sending a replacement bomb from the States.
The scary thing is that I have now spoken to 3 people dealing in
VW/Audi original parts in this country and have got back 3 unrelated
numbers (well, 2 unrelated numbers, the 3rd is actually someone saying
the 2nd one does not exist!). What the heck is the P/N?
Perhaps a UK list member will be able to give the proper number for the
RHD vehicles. The car in question is described as:
Audi Turbo, an Audi matching the 200 of 1990.
2.2 turbo MC engine.
Right-hand drive.
Front-wheel drive, 3-speed automatic.
Code: 444C
Does anyone have a car marked 444C from 89/90?
I'd really appreciate it if several people could check the fiches
for the 89/90 200T and post up the part numbers for the brake
pressure accumulator.
Robert Myers, if you are reading this, sorry for not getting back
to you earlier, but could you please post the part number for the
brake pressure accumulator you can get from Linda in California?
I really need to narrow this thing down.
Also, I see losta talk about fitting something else. A different
type of accumulator, not the one from the agents/factory/OEM
fitter. What is happening about that? What can be fitted in place
of this thing? The replacement must have all the same properties
and functionality, if not better.
Another thing before I go: how can I go about getting hold of the
official fiche for this car?
G.
