'tis the season to be jolly

Hi all,

I would like to take the opportunity, like some before me have done, to
write y'all a short letter of thanks at the conclusion of 1997.

I've been on this list for the best part of two years now, and I can
honestly say that there isn't a better group of people to be found
anywhere. For every discipline, be it car-related or less so ;-), there
seems to be someone on the list who knows about it, and is willing to share
his/her experiences. Truly unique, I'd say. I, like Unka Bart, have been
subbed to lots of mailing lists, and have seen a lot of them self-destruct
or just lost my interest in them. The q-list is the only one that's been
consistently good in s/n ratio (although the echoing posts problem some
time ago almost made me sign off). I'm very glad that through my financial
low points I hung on to my e-mail account.

The q-list has also directly been responsible for the best bit in this (for
me) 'annus horribilis'. I can now say from personal experience that
crashing your car, and being unemployed, or being in the middle of a
heavyweight management dispute are among the worst things that can happen
to you. The get-together at Pikes Peak last July made my year, though. I
completely agree with everything that's been written about it, and wish
that it could've gone on forever... alas, back to the ole' treadmill.

I also would like to thank all listers who helped me with my car questions,
even though my FWD 80 seems to have little in common with your cars besides
having four round wheels attached to it. I can only hope that my rambling,
weird and occasionally off-topic posts have been of any help to anyone.

This list is responsible for providing me with lots of entertainment (I
must look a bit silly, sitting here on my own behind my computer, laughing
out loud) and camaraderie which, more often than not, provided just what I
needed at the end of a somewhat depressing day at work (or not).

To all of you, and especially the people whom I've met or exchanged mail
with in the past years- thanks very much, and have a very good 1998. Thanks
to Dan for making it possible, I just wish I could've met you in person.

If any of those stupid lottery tickets (don't ask- they were a gift) earn
me some cash (yeah, right- keep on dreaming!), I promise to use it all to
return to PP next year!

Tom

Only one PS: Pleasepleaseplease spare us from the endless synth oil thread
with all the innuendo and the stacked >s. Take it to private e-mail, guys!
I even prefer the endless HTML or binary crap on some postings to this
infernal thread.
